Two Oakland residents have been taken into custody in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in downtown San Jose four months ago. Police announced Friday that Cameron Haynes, 21, and Samuel Jordan, 23, were arrested last week on suspicion of homicide and attempted homicide. The arrests relate to a shooting in May that resulted in one fatality and injuries to others who were inside a vehicle.

Samuel Jordan was located by police in Oakland on Thursday, October 8, and subsequently taken into custody at the Santa Clara County Main Jail. Cameron Haynes was already in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility in Contra Costa County for an unrelated crime when police identified his alleged involvement in the San Jose shooting.

The shooting itself took place in the early morning hours of May 31. San Jose police officers responded to the area of South First and East Reed streets after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a car that had crashed into a building. Inside the vehicle, two men were found suffering from at least one gunshot wound each. A third man in the car had sustained injuries as a result of the crash, though he was not shot. All three victims were transported to a hospital, where one of the men who had been shot later died from his injuries.

A preliminary investigation by police revealed that the victims were traveling in their car when unknown suspects allegedly fired multiple gunshots into the vehicle. The suspects then fled the scene before officers arrived. Police utilized automated license plate reader cameras as part of their investigation, which helped identify Haynes and Jordan as the two individuals suspected in the shooting.

Police officials stated they are continuing to investigate the motives and specific circumstances surrounding the May shooting.
