San Jose Police on Friday announced the arrests of two Oakland men in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in downtown San Jose on May 31. The incident resulted in the death of one man and injuries to two others. Detectives utilized remote license plate reading cameras to identify the suspects, who now face multiple charges including murder and attempted murder.

Samuel Jordan, 23, and Cameron Haynes, 21, both from Oakland, were identified as the primary suspects by the San José Police Department’s Homicide Unit. On October 8, with assistance from San Jose’s Covert Response Unit, detectives located and arrested Jordan in Oakland. He was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. Haynes was already in custody at the Contra Costa County Jail-Martinez Detention Facility for an unrelated crime when he was also charged in connection with the May shooting.

The shooting took place in the early morning hours of May 31. At 2:19 am, patrol officers responded to reports of gunfire in the vicinity of South First Street and East Reed Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a Porsche that had crashed into the front of The Fay apartment tower. Three men inside the vehicle were found wounded.

All three victims were transported to local hospitals. One victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by police. The other two victims sustained injuries that were later determined to be non-life threatening. Officers determined that two adult males had been struck by gunshots fired into the car, while a third adult male victim was injured during the vehicle’s crash into the apartment building.

Police reported that the shooting itself had occurred near the City Center Motel. Unknown suspects fired multiple gunshots and left the scene before police arrived. San José Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives immediately began a comprehensive investigation. During their work, detectives used city Automated License Plate Reader cameras, which played a role in identifying Jordan and Haynes.

The motive behind the shooting and the full circumstances surrounding the event remain under investigation. This incident was identified by the city as its 10th homicide of 2026. The San José Police Department encourages anyone with information regarding the case to contact Detective Sergeant Martinez #4117, or Detective Aboud #4468 of the Homicide Unit at 408-277-5283.
